1. Your income levels – High earners hit the cap, so the % matters less 2. Work plans – Staying home vs part-time vs quick return 3. Personal preferences – Who wants to spend more time with baby
There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Let's look at common scenarios.
If you earn enough to hit the €1,800 cap, the percentage (65% vs 67%) doesn't matter – you'll get €1,800 either way.
When there's a big income gap between parents, traditional math says the lower earner should take more time (less income lost).
At minimum, have the higher earner take 2 months to maximize your total.
If either parent plans to work part-time during leave:
